Working together to dismantle racism and make a difference in our world!

In March 2022, we started our  “Spiritual Allies for Dismantling Racism” (SADR) program. With this program, we hope to open up a dialogue about racism and to provide healing, education and understanding that will help us create a world that works for all. The goal is simply to start the process and be committed to dismantling systematic racism.

Committee members Robert Vest and Carol Burnett Vest invite you to participate in the SADR program.

We face enormous challenges of racism and social injustice in America today. With the SADR program, Unity of Phoenix is taking a stand to find answers to the important question:

What can we do to be the change we want to see in the world and to help dismantle racism now?

We use some of the work on dismantling racism that was developed and implemented by Unity Center of San Diego and other Unity churches and centers, and in various communities and countries throughout the world.

We will be hosting additional SADR sessions, but no future dates have yet been set.

The SADR Program:

Getting Started

We began Phase One by hosting five Zoom meetings for Black Allies/Allies of Color and White Allies. The two groups met separately for this portion of the program so that each could actively dig into their own attitudes and/or prejudices about race. Both groups explored books, articles and videos, and had open conversations on how to end racism.
  • Black Allies/Allies of Color – focus is on talking about aspects of institutional racism and what it’s like to be a person of color in America.
  • White Allies – focus is on exploring and learning more about the systemic racism that people of color face in America today.

The SADR Program:

Together We Stand

Phase Two brings both groups together for honest, loving conversation where all explore – together – ways to end racism.

The SADR Program:

Allies Together

In Phase Three, we will sponsor a “Spiritual Allies Book Club” where, as Allies Together, we will explore the works of a wide range of authors to increase our “racial literacy”: the knowledge, skills, awareness and dispositions to talk about race and racism. The books and dates for meeting times will be announced at a later date.
