Board Members Seated Jan 2021

New Board Members
(to be seated at the January Annual Meeting)

The Unity of Phoenix Spiritual Center 2021 Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, Jan. 17, on the event lawn at noon (following our 11am outdoor service).

We hope you’ll join us for a brief review of our financials, the seating of this year’s new board members, and a discussion of what’s ahead for us in the future.

We have four board positions that will open in January 2021. We currently have magnificent candidates to fill three of those spots, and are hoping to recruit an additional candidate in the near future.

Following are the biographies of the three board members who will be seated at our Jan. 17 Annual Meeting.

Linda Cogdill

I have been a member of Unity for over 32 years, the last six years with Unity of Phoenix. My volunteer service for Unity of Phoenix includes serving as a Vision 2020 Team Leader and Room Angel; helping with ticket sales/receipts; and serving at the Palomino School Christmas Party.

At Unity of Des Plaines, Illinois, I served as Youth Ministry Director, and as a Sunday Greeter, Special Event Leader, and participated in two talent shows. At Unity of Crystal Lake/Woodstock, Illinois, I was Team Leader/volunteer for Sunday Greeters and Tithe Processing. I also served on the Board of Crystal Lake, and provided material samples/quotes for new floor coverings.

I am enrolled in Unity’s Spiritual Education and Enrichment (SEE) program, and have completed 80 hours of study.

My first career was in Information Technology for 23+ years. I then changed careers to become an Interior Designer in 1999. I have worked for corporations, as well as a self-employed IT business and Interior Design Consultant. In 2019, I was certified as a Professional Aromatherapist.

My years in business and self-employment have provided me with skills in logic and problem solving, project leadership, sales, customer service, small business management and creative solutions. These skills, combined with my Unity education and service, will allow me to serve as a spiritually guided and well rounded contributor on the Board of Trustees.

Brian Douglas

I’ve attended Unity of Phoenix since 1999. My partner, Jim, and I have been together 20 years. We raised an adopted son, now 30, and two teenage foster sons. All three attended Unity’s youth ministry programs – Uniteens and YOU – over the years. I am currently serving as a member of the Board of Trustees and wish to renew my commitment to this wonderful community.

My working career included senior management positions within the Medicare and Medicaid programs. The last 15 years I built a CPA practice with a specialty in Indian Health Services (IHS) Medicare and Medicaid rate setting. I worked with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of Management and Budget setting national rates used to reimburse IHS hospitals. I retired this year after 42 years of service.

I believe my experience gives me the insight and experience necessary to interact and work collaboratively to accomplish tasks. I look forward to continued service as a board member and ask that you talk with or contact me if there is anything at all on your mind concerning Unity. Thank you!

Mark Salazar

My wife, Lisa, and I are Unity members and have been attending services at Unity of Phoenix for over 15 years. During this time, I have served various roles within Unity, and it has given me a broad understanding of its operation and the duties of its volunteers.

I served as a Prayer Chaplain for two years and as a Youth Education Sponsor for two years. I have been a student in the Unity Spiritual Educational and Enrichment program, completing 140 credit hours. My daughters, Emilie and Cammy, have grown up in the Youth Education program, and it has helped to shape them as the loving and compassionate adults they are today. Unity is our spiritual home.

During my 30+ year career working in technology-based corporations, I have become skilled in leading and working in problem-solving and decision-making committees and teams. These skills will apply directly to serving as a valuable contributor on the Unity Board of Trustees. I thank you for putting your trust in me and selecting me to serve on the Board.
