Have you heard? December 21, 2012 signals the end of a long and mysterious cycle of time – a great world age that began 5,125 years ago in 3,114 B.C.! Every 5,125 years the earth and our solar system reach a place in their journey through the heavens that mark the end of a cycle. This is not the first time this has happened – according to scientists, and historians, we are in our fifth cycle. There are a number of ancient civilizations that knew somehow that the earth passed through long cycles of time and they told stories about the cataclysmic changes that occurred during the shifts between the cycles. The Maya identified, calculated and predicted a number of astonishing astronomical events that mark the end of our age which culminate on 12/21/12 (winter solstice). This is not the end of the world, only the end of a world age because with that end, comes a new beginning, a new journey.
We are clearly in a time of dramatic transition on our planet right now, we need only to tune into a television or radio news show or open a newspaper to read all about it. The Aztecs believe that the universe is composed of great waves of energy that repeat as cycles over time. Their stories say that these cycles end with fire and flood and are necessary for purification purposes, in order for civilization to continue. Purification means rising in consciousness, releasing the old, not succumbing to fear. There is a shift and change occurring on our planet, on so many levels, and the beauty of this is that we get to choose how we show up as these changes occur. A basic spiritual principle taught in Unity is that we always have a choice, regardless of what’s happening in the outer. Author and speaker Gregg Braden says we are creating a new normal now, and we have an opportunity to reformat an entire civilization based on the choices we make. And how do we do this? According to spiritual principle, we know that our thoughts attract our reality. Everything is possible in pure potential and our choices are truly unlimited. Choose to see the good, the divine, in every person, situation and change. Make a conscious decision to be the light that shines in the midst of a dark moment.
One of the best and easiest ways to live in Christ consciousness, or from the divine within, is to do so when in agreement with one another. As the scripture reads, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” An example of this is Lynne McTaggert’s Intention Experiment. She is conducting a web-based experiment inviting people to focus together at certain times enabling them to experience a unique global sense of unity with thousands of others from around the world. Gregg Braden calls this heart-based living or living from Christ Consciousness. The Heart Math Institute has also been measuring the energy field of the heart for decades. This is all about people joining their hearts together for a purpose and their mission statement states they want to shift global consciousness toward peace.
Yes, December 12, 2012 is a ways off. Instead of being overly concerned about what that day in the future holds, focus on today; this is an opportunity to make a very conscious choice to live in a new awareness of what each and every one of our days will look like. Yes, we get to choose – will this be a day filled with fear, turmoil, being apprehensive of what may show up based on what others say? Or is this a day that calmness, joy and love reign over all circumstances? Let us affirm together, “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me…” and know that peace truly does begin, right here, right now, with me! Choose to live from peace, and know that God is with you, all the days of your life.

Almighty God, it is with a grateful heart that I open a space to know and feel the truth that you are always with me. I have nothing to fear, I am safe and secure, always divinely guided and directed as I make healthy, whole choices for myself and for my world. My life is filled to overflowing with grace, ease and peace, thank you God! And so it is, Amen.
