What IS Unity

Unity is a positive, practical, progressive approach to Christianity based on the teachings of Jesus and the power of prayer. Unity honors the universal truths in all religions and respects each individual's right to choose a spiritual path.

Millions of people have been introduced to Unity through its publications, such as the Daily Word and Unity Magazine, published at Unity World Headquarters in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Millions of other people have come to know Unity and receive prayer support through Silent Unity, which has maintained a round-the-clock vigilance of prayer for over 100 years.

What We Believe

Our main focus is not on “original sin,” but on the “original blessing” of being children of God. We are created in the image and likeness of God, here to live life, and live it more abundantly. Unity is centered around the two greatest commandments:

1) To love God with your whole heart, mind, soul, and strength and
2) To love others as you love yourself.

We believe in the power of prayer to expand and transform our minds, and to cultivate our relationship with God. We practice a style of prayer known as denial, affirmation and silent meditation. This kind of prayer frees us from limitation by acknowledging that the presence of God dwells within us (which is also called the Christ within), and allowing us to access the divine qualities that lead to a happier, healthier and more productive life.

Unity's 5 Basic Principles

1. There is only One Presence and One Power active in the universe and in our lives, God the Good, Omnipotent.

2. We are spiritual beings created in God’s image. The spirit of God is within each one of us.

3. We create our lives through the power of thought.

4. We align with God and access the Christ power through prayer and meditation.

5. We transform our lives by putting these principles into practice.

We believe that we are all connected through Spirit, which is everywhere present … and that as we live, love, pray and practice spiritual principles, we will discover and experience the Kingdom of God.

Our major goals are to:
•    Raise Consciousness
•    Build Community

What Is Unity

Unity is an inter-denominational Christian church based on the practical teachings of Jesus Christ. Unity is often referred to as “Positive Christianity”. Our main focus is not on ‘original sin’ but on the ‘original blessing’ of being children of God. We are created in the image and likeness of God, here to live life, and live it more abundantly. It centers around two laws: to love God with our whole mind, body and soul and to love one another.

Unity is a worldwide movement of prayer and education that helps people of all faiths apply positive spiritual principles in their daily lives. Unity has been teaching the lessons of Jesus for more than 100 years and supports all people in their individual quest to know God and find healing in their lives. Our philosophy offers a practical approach to Christianity and teaches that as children of God, we are heir to all that we need.

Unity of Phoenix is a part of this movement as one of nearly 1000 inter-denominational churches throughout the world that make up the of Association of Unity Churches.

Because of a similarity in names, Unity has on occasion been confused with Unitarianism or the Unification Church. However, there is no connection between Unity and these organizations.
