New Strategic Plan

Katie O. WilliamsBy Katie O. Williams
Board President
Unity of Phoenix Board of Trustees

We are off to a great start this year because of all of the hard work and dedication of Pam Petersen, our outgoing president. Her love of this ministry showed in the countless hours of work that she put in to serve this ministry. We owe her a debt of gratitude, and I know you join me in thanking her with all our hearts for everything she did to serve this community.

We welcomed four new board members in January: Pat Clegg, Mary Dunn, Berti Farrell and Penni Honey. They have added so much to our board already with great insights and energy.

We will be rolling out the Strategic Plan on Wednesday, March 11. I encourage each and every one of you join us in the Sanctuary at 6:30 p.m. and hear what we have planned. The Strategic Planning Committee—made up of Board members, ministers, staff, and congregants—has developed an exciting plan for our community over the next few years ... and, with your help, it is possible to accomplish all of it.

The committee first looked at our vision, mission and values and did some fine tuning to those with feedback from the congregation. These were presented over the last couple of months.

Our Vision
Centered in God, we live in a world of peace, love and abundance.
Our Mission
To inspire a greater experience of God in ourselves and each other.
Our Values
• God First
• Love
• Diversity
• Service
• Community
We then developed a questionnaire that we handed out at Sunday worship services asking you all what it was that brought you to and kept you coming to Unity of Phoenix. There were four areas that were repeated time and again: Spiritual Growth, Community, Service and Stewardship. We needed to look long and hard at what we were doing well and what areas we could improve. From that process we came up with the following goals:

Spiritual Growth Goal #1
Quality spiritual education that supports and encourages participants in their spiritual growth and development and enrichment.

Spiritual Growth Goal #2
A Sunday morning experience that inspires congregants into a greater
experience of God.

Community Goal #1
Opportunities for every congregant to participate within our church community.

Community Goal #2
Increased ownership of Unity of Phoenix.

Service Goal #1
A consciousness of service practiced in the ministry.

Stewardship Goal #1
Enhanced opportunities for leadership development.

Stewardship Goal #2
A well developed vision of what Unity of Phoenix can be in the next 10 years.

Stewardship Goal #3:
An atmosphere of transparency, openness and trust

Stewardship Goal #4:
Financial sustainability

Within each of these goals, there are several objectives that we will accomplish over the next several months and years. We will go into detail about those at the meeting on March 11.

We want and need as much participation as we can get at the meeting. If you cannot make it to the meeting, I encourage you to go to our website and look at the strategic plan and review it. Everywhere that you see a red V, that indicates an opportunity for volunteers to be involved.

It is vital in these economic times that we all look to how we can serve this community. So many people have stepped up already, but there is much more work to be done. I encourage you to look within and ask yourself— Where can I be of service?

It is such an exciting time at Unity of Phoenix—Join in!!
